Ar nosurge is a Fantasy, Sci-fi, '7 Dimension' RPG, that takes place in a world where music and song can create magic. It tells the compelling story of a civilisation that lost their planet and has been roaming the edge of space for 2000 years in search of a new home.
The player follows two sets of characters: Delta and Casty, whose goal is to protect humanity and save the world. The player can interchange between both pairs and soon discover a way to combine their storylines and strengths to eventually solve the mystery that shrouds their ongoing struggle.
Much like most titles developed by Gust, this is an intricately deep turn-based RPG and it includes a detailed synthesis system for players to create their own items. Additionally, Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star has a unique character development system that focuses more on the bonds/ relationships between the main characters than their success in missions and battles, as the player's party grows stronger if the characters have a closer relationship.
Additionally, when in battle, character pairs fight together. One is always the first line of defence, attacking enemies in melee with knives and swords while protecting the other, who is weaving a song to fend off enemies. The longer the song lasts the more damage it creates- not only to enemies visible on screen, but to ones that are in line to attack.

Ar nosurge è un rpg fantasy, scifi ambientato in un mondo dove la musica e le canzoni creano la magia. Racconta l'avvincente storia di una civilizzazione che ha perso il proprio pianeta e vaga da 2000 anni ai confini dell'universo in cerca di una nuova casa.
Il giocatore segue 2 set di personaggi: Delta e Casty, il cui obiettivo è proteggere l'umanità e salvare il mondo. Il giocatore può passare da una coppia all'altra e scoprirà un modo per unire le storyline e le forze dei 2 gruppi per cercare di risolvere il mistero che circonda la loro missione.
Così come la maggior parte dei titoli sviluppati da Gust, anche Ar nosurge è un profondo RPG a turni e include un sofisticato sistema di sintesi che permette ai giocatori di creare i propri oggetti. Inoltre ha un unico sistema di crescita dei personaggi che si concentra più sui rapporti tra i personaggi che non sulle missioni e battaglie vinte. Infatti il party diventa più forte mano a mano che il rapporto tra di loro si fa più intimo.
Durante gli scontri, le coppie combattono insieme. Uno è sempre la prima linea difensiva, attaccando i nemici corpo a corpo con pugnali e spade mentre protegge l'altro, che sta preparando una canzone per demolire i nemici. Più a lungo dura una canzone maggiore è il danno che produce, non solo ai nemici visibili su schermo ma anche agli altri in fila.
